Response
- Please find attached Appendix A, showing a breakdown of Scottish Enterprise employees as requested.
Please note the description of our Directorate roles varies slightly from the titles you have given, however, all aspects of your request are covered within the information provided. The employees ‘Main job function’ can be found in the ‘Directorate column and the ‘Salary band’ is provided as a Grade, with the corresponding salaries noted in the table at the bottom of the report. - For consistency with your latter questions 2,3 and 4, we have provided the information as FTE. The total FTE staff in the ‘Energy Transition’ Directorate is 39.46.
As guidance, while employees are categorised internally within specific Directorates for practical reasons, staff work flexibly as required in support of the Mission priorities identified in the ‘Our Focus on economic transformation’ strategy, launched in January 2024.
For example, a staff member in one team may support companies working in FinTech, Industrial Biotech, Space, Quantum Photonics or any other number of sectors. Someone notionally working as part of the Energy Transition Directorate may support a Food and Drink company one day and a Life Sciences company the next. Employees are required to work dynamically and flexibly across the organisation. - Our employee job titles do not use the word ‘experts’, however, we do have ‘specialists’ in a number of areas of the business, as detailed in Appendix A. As guidance, a ‘Head of’ or a ‘Team Leader’ may well also be considered a ‘specialist’ – the role isn’t noted within our HR systems.
Again, while employees are categorised internally within specific Directorates for organisational reasons, staff work flexibly as required to deliver our Mission priorities identified in the ‘Our Focus on economic transformation’ strategy. - Our best approximation of FTE members of staff working on cooperative business models is provided below. As described above, all staff work flexibly to deliver our Mission priorities which are not necessarily industry or model specific. These staff will be delivering projects and providing advice and support to other areas of the organisation, and taking advice and support from colleagues elsewhere in the business, as required.
- A total of 4.5 FTE staff works on co-operative business models:
- 2 Full-time co-op and employee-owned specialists
- 1 FTE market engagement & communication specialist (2 x part-time employees)
- 1 part-time project manager (3.5 days per week)
- 1 Team Leader (spending 2.5 days per week on Co-Operative Development Scotland)
