Gaelic language plan

Our Gaelic language plan was approved by Bòrd na Gàidhlig on 24 January 2023. The plan aims to help with the mainstreaming of Gaelic within and outside of our organisation. Read on to get details about our 2023–2028 Plan and to download the full plan in English or Gaelic.

We’ve published our Gaelic Language Plan for 2023 to 2028 with the ambition to ensure all customers, stakeholders and staff have more opportunity to use Gaelic as they help Scotland reach its economic potential.

The first edition of our plan was prepared under Section 3 of the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005 and was approved by Bòrd na Gàidhlig on 24 January 2023.

The Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005 was passed by the Scottish Parliament to secure the status of the Gaelic language as an official language of Scotland, commanding equal respect to the English language.

One of the key features of the 2005 Act is the provision enabling Bòrd na Gàidhlig to require public authorities to prepare a Gaelic language plan. These plans are seen to be crucial to achieving the mainstreaming of Gaelic as part of the day-to-day fabric of modern Scottish life.

Our plan sets out a series of commitments where we'll look to deliver progress under each of the following three areas:

  • Increasing the use of Gaelic within our organisation and encouraging more people to use Gaelic, more often, when they interact with us
  • Increasing the opportunity to learn Gaelic within our organisation
  • Promoting a positive image of Gaelic whenever we can as part of our day-to-day operations as an organisation

Plana Gàidhlig

Tha sinn air ar Plana Gàidhlig airson 2023 gu 2028 fhoillseachadh, ag amas air dèanamh cinnteach gu bheil barrachd cothrom aig teachdaichean, luchd-ùidhe agus luchd-obrach uile air Gàidhlig a chleachdadh fhad ’s a tha iad a’ cuideachadh Alba gu a comas eaconamach a ruighinn.

  • Cothrom air Gàidhlig ionnsachadh a mheudachadh taobh a-staigh ar buidhne
  • Ìomhaigh dheimhinneach don Ghàidhlig adhartachadh nuair as urrainn dhuinn, mar phàirt de ar n-obrachaidhean mar bhuidheann
