The role

As part of the Innovation, Collaboration and Funding Specialist team you’ll identify ambitious, high-growth SMEs and support them to significantly grow and scale. You’ll help them raise grant funding and investment so they can commercialise their innovation and become investable. You’ll also help them get ready for investment and prepare themselves to reach growth potential.

As Innovation Ecosystem Specialist, collaboration is key. You’ll work with Innovate UK colleagues, British Business Bank regional colleagues and intermediaries, plus other key regional stakeholders. Making connections and joining the dots is how you help your clients navigate the local innovation, investment and growth support environment. You’ll get to know and draw heavily on Scottish Enterprise’s local and national partners, as well as working alongside accelerators, launchpads, and regional clusters.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying ambitious innovation-orientated SMEs with the potential to scale
  • Assessing the companies’ needs and introducing them to relevant Innovate UK growth products and Scottish Enterprise support
  • Providing strategic funding and finance support for Innovate UK’s investment readiness and funding programmes
  • Giving flexible support to meet the companies’ growth and scaling needs
  • Connecting companies with the people and opportunities to accelerate growth in the UK and internationally
  • Staying close to and supporting the national Innovate UK Business Growth “investability” pathway and the Innovate UK Scaleup Programme
  • Developing, delivering and facilitating capacity-building workshops to support high growth and scaling. This may include attending national and international conferences and exhibitions

Who we're looking for

You’ll have worked across strategic funding and understand the financial needs of innovative companies with high-growth potential. As a specialist, you’ll have expertise in funding and finance strategies for innovative companies with global potential. You’re an experienced project manager creating networks and building substantial relationships throughout your work.

Your skills, abilities and experience should include:

  • Supporting companies to implement funding and finance strategies, including fund raising to support innovation
  • Commercialising and launching new innovations
  • Supporting companies to commercialise in a global market
  • Developing, facilitating and delivering innovation capacity building support programmes
  • Strong networking, business development and sales skills
  • Good connections to national and international business support
