Balmoral Comtec sets sail to capture global renewables markets

Learn how our support has helped Aberdeenshire firm, Balmoral Comtec, target new energy transition markets around the world for its range of subsea solutions.

Balmoral Comtec, an Aberdeen-based provider of buoyancy, protection and insulation solutions, is focussing on global markets in energy transition. This is thanks to the help, support and guidance from Scottish Enterprise's global arm, Scottish Development International (SDI).

Established over four decades ago, the company has extensive expertise in providing solutions for subsea projects across deepwater environments that include the Gulf of Mexico, Brazil and West Africa.

More recently, the innovator has invested this experience to successfully transition into the renewables sector, developing systems for fixed-bottom and floating offshore wind platforms.

Concentrating on renewables, the company has also built upon its longstanding relationship with Scottish Enterprise's internal teams to take advantage of new opportunities in energy transition markets.

The organisation has received support to target new overseas opportunities by promoting its new HexDefence® scour protection system. This system integrates seabed protection and flow reduction to minimise offshore operational costs and potential cable failure.

Helping Scottish companies to explore new overseas markets

SDI’s trade missions have been beneficial to Balmoral Comtec. This programme of virtual and physical overseas missions enables Scottish companies to learn about new opportunities and connect with potential buyers and strategically important markets.

Maximising support to boost business

Ian’s positive impression of our support extends beyond our ability to connect people and businesses. He also praises our international arm’s follow-up procedures and region-specific support:

“A key aspect of support around the trade missions has been the translation services and unparalleled knowledge of the culture, and how business is done in the region.”

Likewise, the firm's Sales Director, Gary Yeoman, who attended the trade missions alongside Ian, says:

“Getting key people from industry together has been critical for us. They allow us to go somewhere with a lot of focus, and this makes good use of our efforts, knowing that everything has been set up for us.”

“The trade missions have been vital to us, and I think they are of great benefit to every organisation that attends them.”
