Logos Logistics' expansion into the Republic of Ireland and the US is testament to Scotland's tenacity in scaling innovation in overseas markets. The Scottish family business, based in East Kilbride, secured a multimillion euro contract with global chip giant Intel.
Founded in 2003, Logos Logistics specialises in end-to-end move management services for specialist machinery, including semiconductor, aerospace, pharmaceutical and life sciences equipment. The firm provides bespoke solutions such as crate design and fabrication, packing, rigging, lifting and air floatation to customers globally.
The second-generation, woman-owned company aims to provide the most efficient and sustainable specialist packing service in the UK, EU and US by 2030.
How Logos Logistics made new overseas connections
The company is geared up for global expansion with its new subsidiary in Ireland and the signing of a contract with Intel worth over €3 million. Scottish Enterprise's global arm, Scottish Development International (SDI), helped lay the foundations to explore this overseas opportunity, which the company predicts could be worth £11.5 million in sales over the next three years.
Emma McGibbon, Director at Logos Logistics, was put in touch with SE's international enterprise through Business Gateway after enquiring about support to grow the business.
“Within six months of meeting with trade specialists, I had our Irish subsidiary up and running,” she says. “SDI provided an itinerary for visiting and getting set up, explained who to meet with and when and how we would get things done.”
"What followed was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Emma adds: “We reached out and within three months we secured a multimillion euro contract with Intel as a result of that – it was remarkable.”
Growing exports globally
The initial Intel project is now complete. At the time, this was the largest rigging and crating project in the whole of Ireland. The company is seeing the continued benefit of that initial connection and its impacts.
Emma adds: “Locating in Ireland has helped us grow the product development side of the business. This will be significant for us over the next 10 years.”
Following the success of its first project with Intel as principal crating contractor, Logos Logistics was awarded a second large-scale demo project as part of Intel's growth. Emma describes this as an “affirming endorsement of the professionalism of our team and quality of our products-to-be.”
This opportunity allows the company to widen its offering, as well as refining its responsive design capabilities. Logos Logistics continues to partner with leading global technology companies as it innovates in efficient ways to sustainably move and package the world's most vital capital equipment.
Reflecting on the tremendous success of this endeavour, Emma praises the knowledge and network of the team that helped her company scale into Ireland.
From Ireland to Oregon
Logos Logistics has now set its sights on the US. Our international team is there to offer its full support, connecting the company with the right people in the right place to make its ambitions a reality.
Emma adds: “The semiconductor market is growing in the US just now. We were invited to Edinburgh to meet with one of Scottish Enterprise's partners, the GlobalScot network. After this meeting we established our base in Oregon within months."
Another connection she made through the network now sits on the firm’s company board as an advisor, helping with investment and product development in the US.
International aspirations from Scotland
An international trade specialist said: “We were delighted to support the firm's expansion into Ireland and now into the US. Our team in Ireland, notably our science and technology in-market specialist, played a key role in making that critical connection. Importantly, they supported Logos Logistics at all stages of its journey in establishing its Irish base.
“Our international teams excel at developing valuable local networks that can really accelerate companies’ export growth.”
