Aquaculture and Floating Offshore Wind - Potential Synergies - Report

Aims

The report was commissioned for a client group of Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise. The exploratory research is to identify potential synergies between aquaculture and floating offshore wind sectors in Scotland, with a view to understanding the nature of the support framework required to help realise opportunities and unlock new growth, as well as associated policy implications for the public sector.

Methods

The research methodology comprised two principal strands – desk research and a programme of consultations with experts drawn from research, academia, industry, and public sector agencies.

Findings

The research has demonstrated that there are a range of areas of potential synergy between aquaculture, FOW and potentially related industries. However, there are challenges to progressing and achieving the synergies which will require careful consideration, prioritisation, planning, and leadership.

Recommendations

The report set out principles to underpin activities and interventions to catalyse the work that will be required to synergise aquaculture and floating offshore wind.
