Net Zero challenges and digital ClimateTech opportunities study: summary report

Aims

This report investigates the most significant Net Zero challenges that have the potential to be addressed by digital ClimateTech solutions.

Methods

The methodology consisted of a combination of desk research and primary research (interviews and workshops).

Findings

The report provides a detailed analysis of specific Net Zero challenges experienced by companies operating in five thematic areas. The analysis includes a structured prioritisation of the specific Net Zero challenges identified within each theme. It also identifies the key barriers faced by companies within each theme in addressing the specific Net Zero challenges. The thematic areas considered are: future energy supply; mobility and transportation; buildings; industrial decarbonisation; agriculture, land use and food. In addition, the support needs of industry were examined and a number of comparisons with Challenge-based models were identified.

Recommendations

It is intended that the findings will be used as the basis of challenge-based innovation activity to stimulate development of digital ClimateTech solutions. The findings will be reviewed with a view to future project implementation.
