Coronavirus business support funding: FOI release (reference 4800)
Date received
1 June 2020
Date responded
5 June 2020
Information requested
Coronavirus business support funding granted to companies involved in the arms trade. Specifically, I would like to know (a) the name of the company, (b) how much money has been given, and (c) from which funding stream each company involved in the arms trade has received. This should include, but not be limited to, the companies Raytheon, Leonardo, and Chemring. List of companies:
Babcock Design & Technology Ltd | Chemring Energetics UK Limited | MSB Ltd | SELEX ES LTD (Now Leonardo UK) |
Babcock Marine (Rosyth) Ltd | Helmet Integrated Systems Ltd | Nallatech Ltd | Selex Sensors and Airborne Systems |
Babcock Naval Services | James Fisher Marine Services Ltd | Penman Engineering Ltd | Thales Optronics Ltd |
Bae Systems Surface Ships | MacTaggart Scott & Co Ltd | Raytheon Systems Ltd | Trak Microwave Ltd |
Bae Systems (Operations) Ltd | Mesl Microwave Ltd | Sarkar Defence Solutions Ltd | Vector Aerospace International |
While I am happy for the list to be used to provide some indicator of the companies in question, I would also like the information for any companies not on that list but who would otherwise be captured by the approach taken by SE previously to identifying companies involved in the arms trade.
Response
We would firstly like to reiterate advice provided previously, that Scottish Enterprise does not provide funding for the manufacture of munitions. We use industry standard sector definitions of Aerospace, Defence and Marine to capture company support and engagement.
Scottish Enterprise contribute to the delivery of two Business Support Funds – the Pivotal Enterprise Resilience Fund (PERF) and the Creative, Tourism and Hospitality Enterprises Hardship Fund (CTHEHF). Scottish Enterprise is working with partners to ensure the funds are provided to the most relevant companies as per the application criteria.
Of the list of companies that you referenced in your request, we can advise that none have received support from either PERF or CTHEHF, therefore section 17 of FOISA applies.
