The role

As an Investment Specialist, you’ll develop an in-depth understanding of the funding landscape in markets relevant to our strategic priorities.

This includes identifying challenges and opportunities where new investment interventions will help drive transformational change. Working as part of a team of Specialists, you’ll assist with the development of business cases for new investment solutions and/or collaborations with stakeholders.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Nurturing relationships with industry, investors, and other stakeholders to understand funding barriers
  • Helping identify opportunities and prioritising team activities
  • Working with the team to build business cases for new investment solutions and collaborations, articulating the risks and financial rewards at every stage
  • Assisting in the direct delivery of investment solutions or collaborations in the market
  • Developing networks with external, private, and public sector funders and key industry players to share information and expertise

Who we're looking for

You’ll know commercial funding models, ideally debt and equity, and you’ll be comfortable devising and assisting in the development of new funding solutions.

Importantly, you can assess and interpret financial, market, technical, and economic information and use it to inform your team’s strategic direction. Strong in business development, you can confidently build new networks and relationships and actively raise the visibility of your work at external events.

Your skills, abilities and experience should include:

  • An understanding of investment challenges facing companies and industries operating in emergent markets
  • Strong financial acumen, with good analytical skills with relevant investment experience
  • Effective written and verbal communication, with the ability to present complex propositions assessing opportunities and risks
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Experience managing a demanding workload
  • A degree or equivalent qualification (SCQF Level 10) and experience in investment, accountancy, banking or finance

Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also have:

  • Well-connected in the Scottish finance and public sector
  • Experience of economic development and market creation
