Join us and lead our newly formed Investment Solutions team, within the Entrepreneurship and Investment (E&I) directorate, where you’ll be at the heart of developing investment focused solutions in Scotland’s most innovative industries.
The role
You’ll use your networks, as well as your technical funding and investment experience, to identify opportunities for new market making investment solutions that will drive investment into hard-to-fund and emerging markets. Guided by your team leader, you’ll work to develop bespoke solutions and robust business cases for new investment products or approaches. You’ll collaborate widely with colleagues and stakeholders, as well as developing the relationships and the opportunities essential to your team’s success.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Using your investment or banking structuring expertise to identify and find creative solutions to complex structural investment challenges
- Delivering and collaborating with others to deliver new solutions or approaches in the market
- Constructing and presenting evidence-based business cases for new products or solutions, articulating the risks and economic rewards at every stage
- Developing networks and relationships with Scottish Enterprise colleagues and external private and public sector funders, including key industry players, to share information and expertise
- Reporting to your team leader regularly and escalating issues in good time, sharing necessary information
Who we're looking for
With a background in transactions and experience of structuring and negotiating commercial funding, you’re confident finding creative solutions to complex problems. You use your influence to build consensus at all levels, including collaborating with external organisations and funders. You actively raise the visibility of the work you do and are a familiar face at industry events.
Your skills, abilities and experience should include:
- Extensive experience of structuring and negotiating commercial funding (ideally debt and equity) with the ability to suggest and implement new funding solutions
- A solid understanding of the challenges facing companies and industries looking to scale, especially those operating in emerging markets
- Strong financial acumen with good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex propositions assessing opportunities and risks
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
- Management and prioritisation of a demanding workload
- A degree or equivalent qualification (SCQF Level 10) with an appropriate professional qualification or equivalent experience in investment, accountancy, banking or law
Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also have:
- Sector specific investment experience relevant to Scottish Enterprise’s strategic priorities
- A well-connected network within the Scottish finance and public sector
