Join our Strategic Investment team as a Specialist and deliver some of our most meaningful investment opportunities. You’ll work across multiple sectors and business areas, structuring and managing the complex deals driving our strategic ambitions.
The role
Reporting to the Team Leader, you’ll work with other experienced specialists to lead some of our most high-profile commercial deals, working with complex investment structures including both equity and debt instruments.
Supported by your team and colleagues across the organisation, you’ll manage deals from origination to exit, securing strong financial returns.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing, preparing and presenting investment cases – this includes co-ordinating internal and external due diligence, negotiating commercial terms, and liaising with target and other funders
- Ongoing portfolio management of new and existing Scottish Enterprise investments and debt positions – this may include follow-on investment, restructures, board observer roles, liaison with non-executive directors, and working with partners to enhance management teams or board compositions, and to manage exits
- Assisting with developing future strategic Scottish Enterprise investment opportunities – including building internal and external networks and collaborating with your colleagues.
Who we're looking for
You’ll have an extensive transactional background giving you confidence across every moving part in an investment proposition. You’ll enjoy using your expertise to find creative solutions to complex problems and build consensus with colleagues. Your negotiation skills extend beyond your organisation, to prospects and other funders.
Your skills, abilities and experience should include:
-
Extensive deals experience in some or all of private equity, debt structuring, project finance, and portfolio management
-
Strong financial acumen, with good analytical and problem-solving skills
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to build and manage relationships
-
A degree or equivalent qualification (SCQF Level 10) with an appropriate professional qualification or equivalent experience in investment, accountancy, banking or law
Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also have:
- Investment experience in sectors relevant to one or more of our strategic priorities
- Strong business development skills
- Experience of economic development
