Be part of building Scotland's future
Scottish Enterprise is Scotland's national and international economic development agency. We work to transform the Scottish economy by helping businesses to innovate and scale, creating high-value jobs, boosting productivity and growing national wealth.
Join us and lead our newly formed Investment Solutions team, part of our Entrepreneurship and Investment (E&I) directorate. Your expertise and vision will be at the heart of developing investment focused solutions in some of Scotland’s most innovative industries.
The role
You’ll drive a new team delivering, bespoke and market-making investment solutions. As Team Leader, you’ll prioritise the most important work, collaborating with Scottish Enterprise colleagues to develop business cases for new investment activities and interventions. You’ll work closely with industry, funders and public sector bodies to develop your expertise and unlock funding barriers constraining the flow of private sector investment into hard-to-fund and emerging markets.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading an experienced team of investment experts creating new investment products and delivering new solutions in the market
- Collaborating with industry, public and private sector funders and senior Scottish Enterprise colleagues to share information and develop joined-up solutions to market challenges
- Attending events to raise Scottish Enterprise’s profile, delivering economically critical, innovative funding solutions
- Joining the Entrepreneurship and Investment management team and Investment Committee, as well as deputising for the Head of Investment where appropriate
Who we're looking for
Coming from an investment background, with solid experience of negotiating commercial funding, you’ll bring an in-depth understanding of the financing challenges facing companies and industries operating in emerging markets. You’ll use your expertise to drive change and champion your team to develop new and creative solutions – fostering team success through development and coaching.
Your skills, abilities and experience should include:
- Experience of leading a team and delivering effective change
- Extensive deal experience in at least one of: private equity, debt structuring or project finance
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills with experience of generating and delivering creative solutions
- Ability to spearhead effective collaboration with senior stakeholders, utilising strong interpersonal skills
- Experience of economic development (and market creation, ideally)
- Effective written and verbal presentation skills, with the ability to influence at a senior level
- Presenting complex propositions including robust assessment of the opportunities and risks
- An SCQF Level 10 qualification or equivalent experience in accountancy, banking, law or investment
Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also have:
- Sector-specific investment experience relevant to one or more of Scottish Enterprise’s strategic priorities
- A well-connected network within the Scottish finance and public sector
