Be part of building Scotland's future
Scottish Enterprise is Scotland’s national and international economic development agency. We work to transform the Scottish economy by helping businesses to innovate and scale. Our work is critical to the Scottish Government’s National Strategy for Economic Transformation (NSET) and its goals of creating high-value jobs, boosting productivity and growing national wealth.
As a Specialist in our Investment Solutions Team, you’ll make an impact where Scotland’s economic and investment priorities meet private and public capital. This is an opportunity that will give you unrivalled access to leading projects, companies and finance providers that are looking to invest in Scotland.
Expect your commercial skills and investment or funding capabilities to be tested and extended, as you develop innovative investment solutions. The collaborations you’ll be involved in will drive company growth and bring constrained private sector capital into our key mission areas.
The role
As part of our Investment Solutions team, you’ll identify areas of opportunity through your understanding of public and private finance sources, and your technical funding and investment expertise.
You’ll develop bespoke and market-making investment solutions. This will involve building robust, evidence-based business cases for new investment and/or collaborating with public and private stakeholders.
To perform this role successfully, you’ll need to cultivate strong, productive relationships – with your team, with a diverse range of prospects, and with private and public funders and investors.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Addressing complex structural investment challenges – either through direct delivery of solutions, or by influencing others to deliver where no market solution currently exists
- Constructing and presenting solid business cases for investment products or approaches, clearly laying out the financial and economic risks and rewards at each stage of the process
- Gathering and facilitating information sharing by developing and building networks and relationships with colleagues across Scottish Enterprise, as well as with private and public sector funders
- Keeping your Team Leader fully informed of the progress of each opportunity – escalating matters where needed, together with sufficiently detailed supporting information
Who we're looking for
Success in this role takes good investment risk understanding – ideally coupled with experience of structuring and negotiating commercial funding or investments.
You’ll be financially literate, comfortable finding creative solutions to complex problems, and able to steer others towards agreement on the best approach. Influencing at senior level and developing collaborative solutions with external organisations and funders should come as second nature to you.
You’ll also be keen to proactively raise Scottish Enterprise’s visibility by regularly attending, and taking part in, external events.
Your skills, abilities and experience should include:
- A good understanding of the financing challenges facing companies ambitious to scale – particularly in nascent markets
- Financial literacy, preferably with experience of identifying risk, structuring and negotiating commercial funding, and suggesting and implementing new funding solutions
- Sound knowledge (or an ability to acquire this) of the nuances of economic development
- Excellent communication, presentation and influencing skills, especially when detailing complex challenges and propositions – and especially, the potential risks involved
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills – vital for managing and prioritising a demanding workload while maintaining a flexible approach
- Education to SCQF Level 9, or equivalent experience in accountancy, banking, law or investment
How to apply
If you're interested in this role, please complete your application by Friday 9 April 2025.
Interviews will begin the week commencing Monday 21 April 2025.
