As a Specialist in the Strategic Investment team, you’ll assess and deliver some of our most impactful investment opportunities. You’ll work across multiple sectors and business areas by structuring, transacting, and managing complex, bespoke deals and investments that contribute directly to our strategic ambitions.

The role

You’ll report to the Team Leader of Strategic Investments – an arm of our Entrepreneurship and Investment directorate.

Your team is made up of experienced specialists that are responsible for making targeted commercial equity and debt investments. You’ll lead deals with complex and novel investment structures, working with colleagues from across our business to manage deals from origination to exit, ensuring strong financial and economic returns.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing, preparing, and presenting investment cases, including co-ordination of due diligence, negotiation of commercial terms, and liaising with targets and other funders
  • Managing new and existing investments and debt positions, in line with our management processes, including follow-on investments, restructures, and exits
  • Working with partners to enhance management teams and board compositions through board observer roles, appointments, and liaising with non-executive directors
  • Helping to develop strategic investment opportunities and interventions, including building internal and external networks and working collaboratively with other parts of Scottish Enterprise

Who we're looking for

You must have extensive transactional experience and are comfortable assessing and executing all elements of an investment proposition – including negotiation with prospects and other funders.

You enjoy finding creative solutions to complex problems and work to build a consensus with others.

Your skills, abilities, and experience should include:

  • Experience of private equity, debt structuring, project finance, or portfolio management, built up in a private equity, corporate finance, deals advisory, or banking environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • An ability to build and manage relationships
  • Extensive analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to find creative solutions
  • Educated to SCQF Level 10 or equivalent with a relevant professional qualification or appropriate experience in investment, accountancy, banking, or law

Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also have:

  • Strong business development skills
  • Experience of economic development

How to apply

If you're interested in this role, please complete your application by Friday 9 April 2025.

Interviews we begin the week commencing Monday 21 April 2025.
