European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC)

EMEC, originally established as a test centre for wave and tidal energy generation, is an innovation catalyst, supporting the transition to a clean energy future. As a not-for-profit entity, EMEC aims to grow its know-how, services, and infrastructure to reduce the time, cost and risk for progressing innovative sustainable technologies to market.

EMEC hosts four test sites – two each dedicated to wave and tidal energy generation. Services include project management, technical and operations support for developers, R&D assistance, marketing, and bid writing support.

EMEC's facilities across Orkney offer innovators space to deploy scaled demonstrations (in a range of technology types) that help prove concepts for financial backing. EMEC connects concept and commercialisation and offers supply chain support throughout.
