Responsible Investment Framework

We're committed to growing the Scottish economy for the benefit of all, helping create more high-quality jobs and a brighter future for every region. 

The Framework supports this commitment and our objectives of creating economic and societal value within our investee businesses. 

Our approach to responsible investment has three key elements: 

1. Financial performance and business resilience

We believe there are strong links between effective management of non-financial topics and financial performance.

Strong non-financial-related performance and credentials can give businesses an advantage by separating them from competitors and building resilience for future value creation.  

2. Sustainability outcomes

Our responsible investment approach aims to minimise harmful impacts and maximise positive impacts caused by our investee businesses. 

3. Access to finance for investee businesses

Investors are increasingly looking for robust ESG management when allocating capital. This means that ensuring our investee businesses are effectively managing non-financial topics will help them access future finance.  

The Framework applies to all businesses pursuing investment (debt finance or equity investment) from Scottish Enterprise.

It also applies to investors that we invest alongside via our Scottish Co-Investment and Scottish Venture  funds.
