SHINe exists to enhance Scotland’s hydrogen landscape by shining a light on its innovation network and supporting its existing ecosystem. Our goal is to accelerate hydrogen innovation across Scotland.

SHINe was formed by Scottish Enterprise and aims to support businesses to innovate, scale and grow in Scotland’s hydrogen sector. The programme is being delivered by Carbon Limiting Technologies and Gemserv, a Talan Company, and will continue up until 2026. This blog summarises what we hope SHINe will achieve during that time.

SHINe’s mission

SHINe's mission is to make the Scottish investment landscape easier to navigate, create a healthy environment for business growth, and unlock the full potential of Scotland’s hydrogen capabilities.

Our team is committed to working with Scottish businesses in both the public and private sector to help them succeed in the hydrogen industry. The programme offers companies of all sizes a single platform to easily access expertise, demonstration opportunities, test centres and crucial partnerships for advancing innovations.

SHINe helps businesses navigate the existing Scottish hydrogen landscape by offering guidance, facilitating and attracting investment, and simplifying access to facilities and expertise. It also aims to reduce search and tender costs by providing invaluable information, resources and support on funding opportunities to foster business success. We bring together newcomers and inward investors to explore why Scotland is such an attractive opportunity for hydrogen innovation.

Scotland: global hydrogen hub

SHINe will play a huge role in positioning Scotland as a global hub for hydrogen production.

We're working with ambitious Scottish businesses of all sizes to support their growth and to encourage collaboration. Established asset owners like the Net Zero Technology Centre, Powerhouse, and Hydrogen Works are among the companies who are already working with SHINe. They're ready to co-invest and collaborate with businesses to pioneer new solutions for expanding hydrogen’s capabilities in Scotland.

Our capability directory features a list of existing hydrogen innovators who can assist with facilitating smoother integration into the Scottish hydrogen industry. Companies and innovators seeking to create new and innovative products and services within the sector can use this tool to identify potential collaborators for new projects.

Our objective is to act as a one-stop shop for emerging Scottish businesses by showcasing Scotland’s diverse hydrogen capabilities in a consolidated space.
